The Pre-main Sequence: Challenges and Prospects for Asteroseismology

چکیده
Stars do not simply pop up on the main sequence. Before stars arrive zero-age sequence, they form in collapses of molecular clouds, gain matter through accretion processes, and compress their cores until hydrogen can burn full equilibrium. Although this evolutionary phase lasts a relatively short time, it is imprint these important physical processes that often ignored by simplified assumptions. While asteroseismology offers great tool to investigate studying pre-MS oscillations turn has potential further advance field. Asteroseismology pre-main sequence faces observational theoretical challenges. The remnants birth environment which still surrounding young causes variability interfere with signal pulsations. lack long time-base satellite observations addition limits applications method. Theoretical models include several assumptions simplifications influence calculation pulsation frequencies excitation properties modes. Keeping all mind, prospects for are manifold. An improved understanding structure stellar objects answer some open questions evolution, including angular momentum transport formation magnetic fields. gyrochronology, example, struggles determine ages youngest clusters, pulsations function as an independent age indicator yielding higher precision single stars. increasing interest astrophysics general early evolution planets illustrates growing importance asteroseismology.

Prospects for Helio- and Asteroseismology
Major progress has been made in helioand asteroseismology in recent years. In helioseismology, much of the activity has been in local helioseismology. However, the recent revision of solar surface abundances, and the resulting problems in reconciling solar models with the helioseismic inferences, have lead to renewed activity in solar modelling and global helioseismology. Interesting, although ...
متن کاملPre-main-sequence Lithium Depletion
In this review I briefly discuss the theory of pre-main-sequence (PMS) Li depletion in low-mass (0.075 < M < 1.2M⊙) stars and highlight those uncertain parameters which lead to substantial differences in model predictions. I then summarise observations of PMS stars in very young open clusters, clusters that have just reached the ZAMS and briefly highlight recent developments in the observation ...
متن کاملThe Ages of Pre-main-sequence Stars
The position of pre-main-sequence or protostars in the Hertzsprung–Russell diagram is often used to determine their mass and age by comparison with pre-main-sequence evolution tracks. On the assumption that the stellar models are accurate, we demonstrate that, if the metallicity is known, the mass obtained is a good estimate. However, the age determination can be very misleading because it is s...
متن کاملThe Instability Strip for Pre–main-sequence Stars
We investigate the pulsational properties of Pre–Main-Sequence (PMS) stars by means of linear and nonlinear calculations. The equilibrium models were taken from models evolved from the protostellar birthline to the ZAMS for masses in the range 1 to 4 M⊙. The nonlinear analysis allows us to define the instability strip of PMS stars in the HR diagram. These models are used to constrain the intern...
متن کاملChallenges and Prospects of European Railways
In the present paper, challenges and prospects of the European railways, along with a proposal for a new strategy policy and specific measures are presented. The declining course of European railways concerning traffic and revenues is first analyzed. Conditions to introduce intra - modal competition are surveyed, among them separation of infrastructure fro...
